Claire in Melbourne ~ Writing ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

I am in Melbourne, it’s true. So nice, what a great city, lively, friendly, gorgeous botanical gardens and food!……………….. Writing is going well , very fun for me to meet so many wonderful people, so open and warm……………………………………………………………………………I myself am thrilled to be here and will write more after getting a bit more settled into all this newness…………………………………………………. I am reading about Martin Luther King, Jr. and I love his message. ————————————The UN created an MLK, Jr. award to encourage American society to embrace Dr. King’s message on achieving social justice through non-violent activism; celebrating our diversity, promoting education as well as accepting and appreciating others; helping youth make a difference in their lives and inspiring them to contribute to the well being of their families, schools, communities and government; encouraging citizens to recognize their commonalities and to appreciate the potential strength of the racial, ethnic and cultural diversity that so richly enhances our great nation…………………………………………………………………………… one winner of this award:………………………………………. Arun Gandhi is the founder of the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence and the fifth grandson of the legendary peace fighter and spiritual leader, Mahatma Gandhi. Born and raised in apartheid-era South Africa, Gandhi was sent to India when he was 12 to live with his grandfather, where he observed firsthand the profound national campaign for liberation through nonviolent means…………………………………………

Claire’s 1st Editorial; Printed August 2006 in the Honolulu Advertiser Paper on Oahu

Sustainability is a bandaid and not sexy. The word “sustainability” wreaks of monotony, ongoing near-survival efforts. Sustainability is a limited step in a global picture that is calling for urgent action of a much more tantalizing nature. It is fixing pieces of a broken system; a valiant beginning. —————————————————- We are now in need of great inspiration, solution-oriented design and cooperative action. We need thinking that reflects the reality that we are a global family sharing a planet of infinite potential and finite constraints we need to face and transcend.———————— Permaculture is a term meant to communicate “permanent culture” or “permanent agriculture.” ————————- Permaculture is a solution-oriented design method that can apply to homes, villages, eco-developments, and any size piece of land, islands, imagine, even entire nations. Permaculture turns any environment, be it desert, urban or lush tropics, into a food forest, supplying energy, food, and water, while treating waste as resources, much like nature models for us in every harmonious setting. Our homes can enjoy the same stability and resilience as an ecosystem. ———————————- Permaculture is regeneration. Regeneration is sexy. It is creative energy freely expressed, birds and bees, microbes and fungi, humans as friends and family, all living fully in a synergistic flow. Regeneration inspires blazing good energy and stimulates pleasure, satisfaction, and the joy of living. The planet and our collective wellbeing depend on a new way through. Permaculture offers just such a way that results in abundance, beauty, health and fun along the way. It empowers each of us to be the solution here and now.—————– Claire Kellerman…………………….
